Built around the lesson

Less switching tabs.
More “I get it now.”

Your writing, worksheets and shared tools, all in one place.

A board you share live

See each other's writing as it happens. Explain a solution, invite a student to try a step, or work through a question together.

Your worksheets, ready

Attach images and PDFs, or paste an image from your clipboard. Move, resize and write directly over your materials.

Made for your Pencil

Write naturally on iPad with Apple Pencil. Use pen, highlighter and eraser tools, or join from a browser with a mouse or finger.

Work the numbers together

Open a scientific or graphing calculator on the board. Participants can take control in turn while everyone follows along.

A classroom conversation

Students can raise a hand or ask in chat. With Tangent Pro, bring the conversation onto the board with built-in video calls.

Keep the working

Add pages for new questions, or extend a page when you need more room. Save your board and export the lesson as PDF or PNG.

Works with Integrand

Bring in questions from Integrand.

Teaching A-Level Maths? Pull questions straight from the Integrand H1 and H2 Maths question banks onto your board, then work through them live with your student.

  1. Tap Add question from Integrand in the toolbar, or paste an Integrand question link onto the board.
  2. Pick questions from H2 Maths by chapter, difficulty and source, or from H1 Maths by topic, up to ten at a time. You sign in with your own Integrand account.
  3. They appear on your board as the original question, ready to annotate, with a card that opens the question in Integrand.

Integrand questions need an Integrand account, and H1 questions need H1 Maths on it. H2 Further Maths and H3 Maths follow when Integrand publishes them. Works on the web and in the iPad and iPhone app.

Questions before you start?

Do students need an account?

Students can join using a room ID or invitation link as guests. The board owner grants drawing permission from the People panel. Sign in with Google or Apple to save and manage your own boards.

Can I use Tangent on an iPad?

Yes. Get the free Tangent app on the App Store for iPad and iPhone, with Apple Pencil pressure, double-tap to switch to the eraser and squeeze on Pencil Pro. Tangent also works in any browser, with a mouse or finger too.

Can I use questions from Integrand?

Yes. Tap Add question from Integrand on the board (or paste an Integrand question link) and choose questions from the Integrand H1 or H2 Maths question bank, signed in with your own Integrand account. H2 Further Maths and H3 Maths follow when Integrand publishes them. The original question goes on your board for you to annotate, with a card that opens it in Integrand.

Can I write on a PDF or worksheet?

Yes. Attach a PDF or image, or paste a copied image directly onto the board. Use the selection tool to move and resize it, then annotate it with the writing tools.

How do shared calculators work?

Open a scientific or graphing calculator on the canvas. Other participants can see it and take control in turn, so you can demonstrate a calculation and then let a student try.

Who controls access to the board?

The owner manages drawing permissions and chat, and can lower raised hands. Reporting and blocking controls are available for shared content and participants. Keep room IDs and invitation links private and share them only with intended participants.

What is a participant-minute?

It is one minute of video call time for one participant. A 30-minute call with a teacher and one student uses 60 participant-minutes. Tangent Pro includes 3,000 participant-minutes each month and Tangent Class 8,000. Audio-only calls count a quarter, so they go four times as far.

Can I keep a copy after the lesson?

Yes. Sign in to return to your saved boards, and use Export PDF/PNG to download your working after a lesson.

One board. Plenty of possibilities.

Bring your next question.

A blank canvas, a worksheet, a tricky step.
There's room to work it out together.
